My new mentor Jacob has talked to us about his life, he's told us that he decided not to go to college and instead worked with his brother at one of the pawn shops his family owns. I see on a daily bases that the employees have to deal with very demanding or rude customers, many of the times the customers don't treat the employees that great and I would have thought they would say something back but they don't lash out. The employees try their best to make the customer happy, although sometimes the customer is very stubborn, they will always try to help out as best as they can. This experience hasn't really changed my mind on my college path because I already knew I didn't want to be stuck dealing with customers all day.
This is the back of the store where the other interns and I eat our lunch. Here is one of the stores areas where some of the video game junk is located. This is right next to the video games and it looks different than the picture here because we had a task to re-organize this and make it into a music section.
I will be interning at a pawn shop. I'm excited to be there with a few of my friends. I'm just nervous because it's something i've never done before. My mentor is sandy nambo and she works for the store.
The first image is a cabinet in the back of the store that we had to organize from scratch. The second is a rack that had to be organized as well in order to make space. The last picture is one side of the store that we had to clean up and it looked great afterwards, unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the aftermath.
I self advocate by asking my mentor questions with anything that I need help with, he always has time to answer our questions. I feel comfortable asking any questions such as clarifying question because he's an easy going person and he's one of the nicest people I've met. I always reach out to my mentor because he usually gives us a task to do and I want to make sure everything is to his liking.
A connection between school and externship is that in both places I am given tasks to do. I am learning how to price games, test games, restock items, etc. My teacher can come in anytime between 12 and 6. We are always available to talk. So far, So good. Everything's going great!
I would have thought my externship was going to be a little boring but I was mistaken. Two of my friends were also with me which made it a little better. Everybody was very friendly and open to talk which I liked. I believed that it would be fairly easy but seeing everything they have to do really made my mind change. I am really excited to see what the rest of the month has to offer. There aren't any worries other than not being able to go to soccer practice on friday.
